Bill and Hillary Clinton strode onto the stage of the Clinton Global Initiative on Monday morning to the theme from “Jurassic Park.”
Was that a touch of irony, a statement on both politicians’ ability to reinvent themselves on the international stage, a veiled clue about Hillary’s presidential ambitions?
They giggled just a tad and shared a special moment as the music came to a close. Something was up. We’re simply not privy to what.
The secretary of state joined her husband’s global forum on Monday to stress the importance of public-private partnerships to cultivate development around the world and eventually put the State Department out of the business of aid.
In a room filled with CEOs of major corporations looking for places to commit their charitable budgets, her pitch was half diplomatic and half business-savvy.
“You cannot have development in today’s world without partnering with the private sector,” Clinton said. “Including the private sector gives developing economies new opportunities. ... We want to move from aid to investment.”
